She was a model before entering films. Although Anushka is the main lead, Mamta too has equal role and importance in the film She has two other films - Homam and Vyuham (opposite Nitin). As a singer, she got well recognition as her first song in the film Rakhee with music director Devi Sri Prasad got Mamta recognition as a singer and she also bagged the Filmfare award for best playback singer.
She has also completed Homam. with Jagapathi Babu in Telugu which will release in summer 2008. Mamta is currently working in a Kannada film opposite Sudeep and is rumored to be Mahesh Babu's heroine in his next film.
